About Puritan Works
In April of 1945 our family started a Bible and Book ministry in connection with a Radio Ministry. When we received our first catalog from Baker Book House, they included a catalog of used and out of print Puritan books. The titles of many were captivating, having a hint of Scriptural doctrines that had for half a century been fading from the sermons of even the most conservative pulpits. We ordered a few, and basked in the delightful illumination of the cardinal doctrines of God's Word.
For many years, these Puritan titles had ceased to be reprinted. The Protestant world of the Puritans had eroded and modernism had replaced the values of the old time church. The new generation had lost its taste for the old time doctrines of the Reformation. This decline can be traced from the last years of Spurgeon's ministry ( read his Downgrade Controversy). We were just beginning to emerge from the Great Depression: people were poor, and times were difficult, but we underwrote the publication of several books so publishers could test their marketability. To our great delight, the renewed interest in these gems revealed a widespread hunger for God and His blessed Word.
In these last days of apostasy and "falling away from the truth" before our Lord returns, there is a deep, underlying, heartfelt yearning in the masses for "something" that can only be found in the crucified, buried, and risen Son of God. The old Puritan and Reformed preachers preached Christ and Him Crucified. The Lord has graciously and miraculously preserved for our generation many of the Puritan works which are being reprinted today, preserved until the Lord Jesus Christ has completed His redemptive purpose for man.
We are dedicated to help provide these writings to the glory of God, the honor of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the salvation of sinners as long as God wills and provides the opportunity. We pray God's most gracious blessings upon you and each book that makes its way into your life.
